ABSTRACT

The clinical symptoms and signs of methamphetamine-associated psychosis (MAP) and schizophrenia are highly similar, but the situation is completely different when MAP and schizophrenia patients need to be assessed for criminal responsibility after they comitted a harmful behavior. Therefore, the distinction between the two psychoses is very important in forensic psychiatry. At present, the identification of these two psychoses is mainly dependent on the corresponding criteria such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and the Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders Version 3 (CCMD-3). It's challenging to diagnose and distinguish between the two in practical cases due to their similar clinical symptoms and the lack of effective objective indexes. Different from the limitations of single omics, integrative omics intergrates data from multiple dimensions and has been extensively studied in the field of schizophrenia and has achieved some preliminary results. In view of the correlation between MAP and schizophrenia and the potential application value of integrative omics, this paper proposes an integrative omics strategy for MAP pathogenesis and forensic identification, aiming to improve the further understanding of the relationship between the two psychoses and the corresponding pathogenesis. It also provides references for the future exploration of integrative omics in forensic precise identification and effective monitoring and early warning methods.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the titer of IgG anti-A/B erythrocyte antibody in vivo of the neonate with hemolytic disease of newborn(HDN), and explore its clinical valua in evaluating the severity of HDN.@*METHODS@#300 neonates with HDN, 50 neonates with neonatal hyperbilirubinemiain and 50 healthy neonates were selected as research object and Microtubes Gel Test was used to detect the titer of IgG anti-A/B erythrocyte antibody in vivo. Their clinical data and their mothers' prenatal examination data were retrospectively analyzed. Three hemolysis tests (direct antiglobulin test, free antibody test and release test), irregular antibody screening, and the titer of IgG anti-A/B blood group antibody was determined by serological method. Red blood cells(RBC), hemoglobin(Hb), reticulocytes(Ret) and nucleated red cells were detected by hematology analyzer. Indirect bilirubin and albumin(Alb) were detected by biochemical analyzer. The relationship between the titer of IgG anti-A/B erythrocyte antibody in vivo and the severity of HDN was analyzed.@*RESULTS@#There were six serological diagnosis modes in the HDN group, the difference between modes was statistically significant (P<0.05). The antibody titer relationship between HDN neonates and pregnant women was positive correlation(r=0.8302). The highest antibody titer of release test and free antibody test were 1∶32 and 1∶2, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). RBC, Hb and Alb in HDN patients were lower than those in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia patients and healthy neonates (P<0.05), and were negatively relevant with antibody titer in vivo (r=-0.8016). Bilirubin content in HDN patients were higher than those in neonatal hyperbiliru binemia patients and healthy neonates group(P<0.05), and was positively relevant with antibody titer in vivo (r=0.8731). The hospital day in HDN patients was significantly relevant with the antibody titer in vivo (r=0.8547), but not with the age, sex, weight and ABO blood types (P>0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The detection of antibody titer in HDN patients can be used to evaluate the antibody concentration in vivo, predict the ability of antibody to induce erythrocyte hemolysis, and help to judge the serenrity and prognosis of HDN.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE@#Rapid decompressive craniectomy (DC) was the most effective method for the treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH) with cerebral hernia, but the mortality and disability rate is still high. We suspected that hematoma puncture drainage (PD) + DC may improve the therapeutic effect and thus compared the combined surgery with DC alone.@*METHODS@#From December 2013 to July 2019, patients with HICH from Linzhi, Tibet and Honghe, Yunnan Province were retrospectively analyzed. The selection criteria were as follows: (1) altitude ≥1500 m; (2) HICH patients with cerebral hernia; (3) Glascow coma scale score of 4-8 and time from onset to admission ≤3 h; (4) good liver and kidney function; and (5) complete case data. The included patients were divided into DC group and PD + DC group. The patients were followed up for 6 months. The outcome was assessed by Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) score, Kaplan-Meier survival curve and correlation between time from admission to operation and prognosis. A good outcome was defined as independent (GOS score, 4-5) and poor outcome defined as dependent (GOS score, 3-1). All data analyses were performed using SPSS 19, and comparison between two groups was conducted using separate t-tests or Chi-square tests.@*RESULTS@#A total of 65 patients was included. The age ranged 34-90 years (mean, 63.00 ± 14.04 years). Among them, 31 patients had the operation of PD + DC, whereas 34 patients underwent DC. The two groups had no significant difference in the basic characteristics. After 6 months of follow-up, in the PD + DC group there were 8 death, 4 vegetative state, 4 severe disability (GOS score 1-3, poor outcome 51.6 %); 8 moderate disability, and 7 good recovery (GOS score 4-5, good outcome 48.4 %); while in the DC group the result was 15 death, 6 vegetative state, 5 severe disability (poor outcome 76.5 %), 4 moderate disability and 4 good recovery (good outcome 23.5 %). The GOS score and good outcome were significantly less in DC group than in PD + DC group (Z = -1.993, p = 0.046; χ@*CONCLUSION@#PD + DC treatment can improve the good outcomes better than DC treatment for HICH with cerebral hernia at a high altitude.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the dynamic changes in the percentage of Th17 cells/CD4CD25regulatory T cells after intervention with montelukast sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist, in asthmatic mice and the association between them.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Balb/c mice were randomly divided into blank group, asthma group, and montelukast sodium group. The asthmatic mouse model of airway remodeling was established by sensitization with intraperitoneal injection of chicken ovalbumin (OVA) and aluminum hydroxide suspension and aerosol inhalation of OVA. The mice in the blank group were given normal saline, and those in the montelukast sodium group were given montelukast sodium by gavage before aerosol inhalation. Eight mice were randomly sacrificed within 24 hours after 2, 4, and 8 weeks of aerosol inhalation. The pathological sections of lung tissue were used to observe the degree of airway remodeling. Flow cytometry was used to measure the percentages of Th17 cells and CD4CD25regulatory T cells in CD4T cells.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The asthma group and the montelukast sodium group had significantly higher bronchial wall thickness and smooth muscle thickness at all time points compared with the blank group (P<0.05). At 8 weeks of intervention, the montelukast sodium group had significantly greater improvements in the above changes compared with the asthma group (P<0.05). Compared with the blank group, the asthma group and the montelukast sodium group had significant increases in Th17 cells (positively correlated with airway remodeling) and significant reductions in CD4CD25regulatory T cells (negatively correlated to airway remodeling) at all time points (P<0.05). At 8 weeks of intervention, the montelukast sodium group had a significant reduction in the number of Th17 cells and a significant increase in the number of CD4CD25regulatory T cells compared with the asthma group (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Montelukast sodium intervention can alleviate airway remodeling and achieve better improvements over the time of intervention. The possible mechanism may be related to the improvement of immunologic derangement of CD4CD25regulatory T cells and inhibition of airway inflammation.</p>

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to revise the provisions for aluminum-containing food additives in GB 2760-2011 (The National Food Safety Standard for Use of Food Additives), in order to reduce aluminum exposure among the Chinese population. According to the latest risk assessment results of JECFA and China on aluminum and the actual use of aluminum-containing food additives in certain products, the aluminum-containing food additive-related provisions in GB 2760-2011 were revised. Those revisions included narrowing down the applicable food categories and adjusting the maximum use level of aluminum potassium sulfate and aluminum ammonium sulfate, repealing nine aluminum-containing food additives in puffed food and repealing the use of sodium aluminum phosphate, sodium aluminosilicate and starch aluminum octenylsuccinate in all food. After revision of the use of aluminum food additive provisions, the weekly dietary intake of aluminum in the Chinese population can be reduced to a safe level.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to do exposure assessment of the possible migration of antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) from Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) food contact materials (FCM). Consumption Factor (CF) and Food-type Distribution Factor (fT) were calculated from survey data with reference to the US FDA method. The most conservative migration conditions were obtained by testing Sb migration from PET FCM based on the Chinese national standard of GB/T 5009.101-2003[1]. Migration levels of Sb from PET FCM were tested and migration levels of Sb2O3 were obtained through molecular weight conversion between Sb and Sb2O3. Exposure assessment of Sb2O3 was undertaken. The Chinese Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) of Sb2O3 resulted from PET FCM was 90.7 ng p-1d-1.

ABSTRACT

Immunoassays greatly contribute to veterinary drug residue analysis. However, there are few reports on detecting neomycin residues by immunoassay. Here, a rapid and sensitive chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay (CLIEA) was successfully developed for neomycin residue analysis. CLIEA demonstrated good cross-reactivity for neomycin, and the IC50 value was 2.4 ng/mL in buffer. The average recovery range was 88.5%-105.4% for spiked samples (10, 50, and 100 μg/kg), and the coefficient of variation was in the range of 7.5%-14.5%. The limit of detection of CLEIA was 9.4 μg/kg, and this method was compared with the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method using naturally contaminated samples, producing a correlation coefficient of >0.95. We demonstrate a reliable CLIEA for the rapid screening of neomycin in milk.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the role of Th17 cells, CD4⁺ CD25⁺ regulatory Treg cells (Treg) and its transcription factor RORγt and FoxP3 in the pathogenesis of children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) so as to provide a new strategy for treatment of children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura by regulating the balance of Th17 and Treg cells.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura in acute phase admitted in our hospital from February 2012 to March 2013 were enrolled in this study, forty healthy children were simultaneously used as controls. The expression of RORγt mRNA and FoxP3 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was detected by real-time PCR using SYBR Green I. The levels of IL-17A, TGF-β1, IL-2 and IL-6 in serum were measured by ABC-ELISA. The ratio of Th17 cells to Treg cells in peripheral blood T lymphocytes was detected by flow cytometry.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The levels of Th17 cells (2.75 ± 0.60%) and RORγt mRNA (1.11 ± 0.51) in HSP group were significantly higher than levels of Th17 cells (1.41 ± 0.29%) and RORγt mRNA (0.65 ± 0.24) (P < 0.01) in control group, but the levels of Treg cells (4.56 ± 1.26%) and FoxP3 mRNA (1.15 ± 0.45) in HSP group were lower than those of Treg cells (7.85 ± 1.97%) and FoxP3 mRNA (2.32 ± 1.1) (P < 0.01) in the control group. The relative levels of serum IL-17A, IL-6, TGF-β1 (40.40 ± 11.81 pg/ml, 75.38 ± 27.19 pg/ml, 309.41 ± 81.03 pg/ml) in the HSP group were significantly higher than those in the control group [IL-17A (20.32 ± 10.70 pg/ml), IL-6 (25.16 ± 8.31 pg/ml), TGF-β1 (236.34 ± 66.01 pg/ml)] (P < 0.01), but the level of serum IL-2 (25.60 ± 13.19 pg/ml) in the HSP group was lower than that (34.42 ± 11.69 pg/ml) in the control group (P < 0.01). The further detection demonstrated that in the children with acute HSP, the expression of Th17 cells positively correlated with RORγt mRNA, IL-17A and IL-6 with the correlation coefficients of 0.887, 0.938 and 0.934 (P < 0.01), respectively. The positive correlation was also shown between the Treg cells and FoxP3 mRNA, IL-2 with the correlation coefficients of 0.834 and 0.932 (P < 0.01), respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>There are higher expression levels of Th17 cells, RORγt mRNA and IL-17A, and lower expression levels of Treg cells, FoxP3 mRNA of children with HSP in acute phase, which shows that Th17/Treg imbalance exists in children with HSP in acute phase. The levels of serum IL-6, TGF-β1 increase and the serum IL-2 decrease in children with HSP in acute phase, moreover, there are the positive correlations between the levels of Th17 cells and expression of IL-6, as well as the level of Treg cells and expression of IL-2 in children with HSP in acute phase.</p>

ABSTRACT

This study was to analyze the risk of sulfites in food consumed by the Chinese people and assess the health protection capability of maximum-permitted level (MPL) of sulfites in GB 2760-2011. Sulfites as food additives are overused or abused in many food categories. When the MPL in GB 2760-2011 was used as sulfites content in food, the intake of sulfites in most surveyed populations was lower than the acceptable daily intake (ADI). Excess intake of sulfites was found in all the surveyed groups when a high percentile of sulfites in food was in taken. Moreover, children aged 1-6 years are at a high risk to intake excess sulfites. The primary cause for the excess intake of sulfites in Chinese people is the overuse and abuse of sulfites by the food industry. The current MPL of sulfites in GB 2760-2011 protects the health of most populations.

ABSTRACT

The influence of early-stage intensive insulin therapy on the plasma levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the related parameters in patients with severe trauma and the clinical implication were investigated. Sixty-four cases of severe trauma (injury severity score ≥20) with stress hyperglycemia (blood glucose >9 mmol/L) were randomly divided into intensive insulin therapy group and conventional therapy group. ELISA method, radioimmunoassay and density gradient gradation one-step process were used to determine plasma VEGF, endothelin-1 (ET-1), and the number of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) at the day of 0, 2, 3, 5 and 7 after admission. Simultaneously, the changes of CRP concentration in plasma were monitored to evaluate inflammatory response. The results showed that plasma levels of observational indexes in patients receiving early-stage intensive insulin therapy were all significantly lower than those in conventional therapy groups 2, 3, 5 and 7 days after admission [for VEGF (ng/L), 122.2±23.8 vs. 135.9±26.5, 109.6±27.3 vs. 129.0±18.4, 88.7±18.2 vs. 102.6±27.3, 54.2±26.4 vs. 85.7±35.2, P<0.05, 0.01, 0.05, 0.05 respectively; for ET-1 (ng/L), 162.8±23.5 vs. 173.7±13.2, 128.6±17.5 vs. 148.8±22.4, 96.5±14.8 vs. 125.7±14.8, 90.7±16.9 vs. 104.9±22.5, P<0.05, 0.01, 0.01, 0.01 respectively; for CRP (mg/L), 23.2±13.8 vs. 31.9±16.5, 13.6±17.3 vs. 23.5±18.4, 8.7±10.2 vs. 15.6±13.3, 5.2±9.4 vs. 10.7±11.2, all P<0.05; for CECs (/0.9 μL), 10.9±5.6 vs. 13.9±6.2, 8.5±4.9 vs. 11.3±5.3, 6.3±6.4 vs. 9.4±5.7, 4.8±7.1 vs. 7.8±4.8, all P<0.05]. It was concluded that intensive insulin therapy could antagonize the endothelium injury after trauma and reduce inflammation response quickly, which was one of important mechanisms by which intensive insulin therapy improves the prognosis of trauma patients.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate clinicopathological features of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (C-HCC-CC) with neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) differentiation and to review the literature.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The clinical data, histological manifestations and immunohistochemical staining results of two cases of C-HCC-CC were analyzed along with a review of the current literature.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Both patients were male with an average age of 57.5 years. Both patients were positive for hepatitis B virus antigen. The tumors of both cases demonstrated the following 3 unequivocal mixed elements: (1) polygonal epithelial tumor cells growing in nests or trabeculae with positive staining for Hepatocyte and AFP, diagnostic of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Cytoplasmic bile production was present in the tumor cells in one case; (2) elliptic or short spindle-shape small blue tumor cells growing in nests or organoid pattern with Syn/CgA/CD56 positivity confirming the presence of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) component; (3) oval tumor cells growing in nests or glandular forms with positivity of CK19 and CK7 confirming differentiation of cholangiocarcinoma (CC). In both cases, the tumors contained at least 20% of each of HCC, NEC and CC components.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>C-HCC-CC with NEC is a rare form of primary malignancy of the liver with a poor prognosis.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effects of early intervention on CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells and TLR4 expression with Mycobacterium phlei F.U.36 in asthmatic mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups: control, asthma model and Mycobacterium phlei F.U.36 treated asthma groups. Asthma was induced by sensitization and challenges with ovalbumin (OVA) in the later two groups. Mycobacterium phlei F.U.36 was intraperitoneally injected 2 weeks before the first sensitization (0.57 μg/time, once every other day for three times) in the intervention group. After 24 hrs of the last challenge, the mice were sacrificed and the left lung tissues were obtained for the observation of lung pathological changes. Splenic mononuclear cells were isolated. The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in CD4+ T cells and the mean fluorescence intensity of TLR4 on CD4+ CD25+ T cells were detected by flow cytometry.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in the asthma model group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.01), but the mean fluorescence intensity of TLR4 on CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells was not significantly different from the control group. The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells and the mean fluorescence intensity of TLR4 on CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells increased significantly in asthmatic mice receiving Mycobacterium phlei F.U.36 treatment compared with the asthma group (P<0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Early intervention with Mycobacterium phlei F.U.36 can increase TLR4 expression on CD4+CD25+ cells and the number of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells, and thus provides therapeutic effects in asthmatic mice.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate regulatory effect of Acheron (Achn) on proliferation and apoptosis of human vascular endothelial cell.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>(1) Eahy926 cells were cultured in serum-free DMEM medium (96-well plates) and were divided into Achn inhibition group (transfected with plasmid psi-Achn), psi4.1 group (transfected with psi4.1 empty vector), Achn induction group (transfected with pcDNA-Achn), pcDNA3.1 group (transfected with pcDNA3.1 empty vector), cotransfection group [cotransfected with pcDNA-Achn + psi-calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase (CASK)], blank control group (treated with PBS) according to the random number table (the same method below). The cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay at post transfection hour (PTH) 1, 24, 48, 72, with expression of absorbance value. (2) Total protein of Eahy926 cells were extracted and quantitated by BCA assay, and then they were divided into Achn antibody precipitation group (100 µg protein), CASK antibody precipitation group (100 µg protein), IgG antibody group (100 µg protein), Western blot group (20 µg protein). Achn and CASK protein levels were determined by immunoprecipitation and Western blot. (3) Synchronously cultured Eahy926 cells were divided into LPS induction group (treated with 5 mol/L LPS), Achn transfection group (transfected with pcDNA-Achn), cotransfection group (cotransfected with psi-CASK and pcDNA-Achn), KCl group (treated with 5 mol/L KCl), and blank control group (treated with 5 mol/L PBS). Cells in transfection groups were stimulated by LPS for 12 hours after PTH 24. Caspase-3 protein level was detected by immunohistochemistry. (4) Synchronously cultured Eahy926 cells were divided into Achn inhibition group (transfected with psi-Achn vector), Achn induction group (transfected with pcDNA-Achn vector), and blank control group (treated with PBS). Apoptosis rate was determined by FITC/PI with flow cytometry. Data were processed with one-way analysis of variance and t test.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) The cell proliferation in Achn inhibition group was lower than that in psi4.1 group from PTH 24, and the differences were statistically significant at PTH 48, 72 (with t value respectively 10.777, 6.112, P values all below 0.05). The cell proliferation in Achn induction group during PTH 24-72 were higher that in pcDNA3.1 group (with t value respectively 5.367, 6.053, 9.831, P values all below 0.05). The cell proliferation in cotransfection group at PTH 48, 72 were significantly lower than that in Achn induction group (with t value respectively 5.481, 9.517, P values all below 0.05). (2) Achn protein was detected in CASK antibody precipitation group while CASK protein was also detected in Achn antibody precipitation group. (3) Caspase-3 level in Achn transfection group was lower [(15.6 ± 0.5)%] as compared with that in LPS induction group [(32.8 ± 2.6)%, t = 10.083, P < 0.05], and that in cotransfection group showed further inhibition [(7.0 ± 2.0)%, t = 9.827, P < 0.01]. (4) Apoptosis rate in Achn inhibition group [(45.6 ± 10.9)%] was higher than that in blank control group [(13.2 ± 4.3) %, t = 7.043, P < 0.05]; while that in Achn induction group [(5.3 ± 2.9)%] was lower than that in blank control group (t = 6.499, P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Achn can promote human vascular endothelial cell proliferation, and inhibit its apoptosis induced by LPS or burn serum, and the effect is related to CASK.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore morphological classification of the Caldwell view of frontal sinuses in computer radiography (CR) for forensic identification and to construct a forensic identification system with digital X-ray films with assistance of identification indexes coding.@*METHODS@#Four hundred CR films of the Caldwell view of frontal sinus were selected from Sichuan Han ethnic Chinese. The frontal sinuses were classified according to the relationship between the tangential line above the upper edge of the bilateral orbits and the location of the frontal sinus. Then to code the identification indexes for the frontal sinus.@*RESULTS@#The Caldwell view of frontal sinuses were classified into 6 categories. Eight identification indexes for the frontal sinus were identified, including degree of asymmetry, superiority of side, ratio of the left frontal sinus area and orbit area (A(LFS)/A(LOR)), ratio of the right frontal sinus area and orbit area ((RFS)/A(ROR)), outline of the left upper border, outline of the right upper border, occurrence of partial septa and location of frontal median margin.@*CONCLUSION@#Initial identification by the Caldwell view classification of frontal sinuses followed with coding the frontal sinuses with 8 indexes is likely a novel approach for forensic identification of the frontal sinuses in CR.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the dosimetry of different arrangements of 125I seeds in one plane.Methods Nine different in-plane arrangements of 9 125I seeds (2.035 × 107 Bq/seed) were simulated according to distance (cm) along x (horizontal)- and y( longitudinal )-axis using the 3-dimensional treatment planning system (TPS) (3D-TPS): x0.5, y0. 5; x0. 5, y1.0; x0. 5, y1.5; x1.0, y1.0; x1.0, y1.5;x1.5, y1.5; x0. 5, y0. 5 (2)1.0; x0.5, y1.0 (2)0.5; x1.0, y1.0 (2)0.5. The isodose curves of 40,80, 130, 145 and 200 Gy were created and the area, radius and medical cost under the 40, 80, 130, 145and 200 Gy isodose curves were calculated. Results The area, radius and medical cost under the same isodose curves were significantly different with each 125I seed arrangement. The arrangements which had the biggest area under curves of 40, 80, 130, 145 and 200 Gy isodose were x1. 5, y1. 5; x1. 0, y1. 0; x1. 0,y1. 0; x0. 5, y1. 0 and x0. 5, y1. 0, respectively. Conclusion The matched peripheral dose and therapeutic effect were affected significantly by the geometric arrangement of 125I seeds.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>This study determined the changes of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells, IL-10 and TGF-beta1 levels in peripheral blood in children with asthma in order to explore immunologic mechanism of asthma attacks.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Seventy-four children with asthma attacks, twenty-eight children with stable asthma and twenty healthy children were enrolled. The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in CD4+ T cells in peripheral blood was detected by flow cytometry. Serum levels of IL-10 and TGF-beta1 were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells and IL-10 levels in peripheral blood in the asthma attacks group were significantly lower than those in the stable asthma and the control groups (p<0.01) .The stable asthma group showed a similar percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells and IL-10 levels to the control group. Compared with the stable asthma and the control groups, serum TGF-beta1 level in the asthma attacks group increased significantly (p<0.05). In the asthma attacks, the stable asthma, and the control groups, the percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in peripheral blood was not correlated to serum levels of IL-10 and TGF-beta1.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The percentage of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in peripheral blood and serum IL-10 levels decrease and serum TGF-beta1 levels increases in children with asthma attacks, which results in a decreased immunosuppressive effect. This might contribute to one of the immunologic mechanisms of asthma attacks.</p>
